Summer of Super Heroes!

A summer of super heroes – could a girl ask for more?!
Do we love super heroes because:
1. these dudes are handsome hunks?
2. because of their skin tight costumes?
3. or for the feel good thrill of the triumph of good over evil?
4. All Of the Above?
Option 4, of course!!!!
The mother of ‘em all, ‘Avengers’, made me weak in my chubby knees ... so many super heroes, packed into one movie – someone up there really loves me. Sure, Robert Downey Jr, as ‘Iron Man’, had the best lines in the house & was smoking hot, but my heart beat for the vulnerable Mark Ruffalo, who played the endearing Hulk to near perfection!
As I said, this film had something for everyone – Scarlett as the Black Widow, had the guys panting for her!
The Amazing Spider Man was a mixed bag for me – while Andrew Garfield was very competent as the new age Spidey, this middle aged mama, missed the sad eyed, soft, emotional Toby Maguire, who tugged at your heart strings. Don’t get me wrong, the action is fierce, Rhys Ifans as the scientist who turns rogue for a while & apna Irfan Khan were great & thank God for Emma Stone, who is such a relief over the pale, mousy Kirsten Dunst!
My radical views on the Batman series may not go down well with fans of the Nolan trilogy. The first movie, let me be completely honest, I don’t remember at all; ‘The Dark Knight’, had the joker laughing all the way to the bank, with batman cutting a sorry picture; Heath Ledger obviously saved his best for last, because his Joker completely rocked the house & you almost applauded, whenever he got the better of Batman!
Ditto with “Dark Knight Rises” – the Dark Knight takes his own time to rise (what happened to all those super powers?!) & I got pretty sick of him. God Bless Ann Hathaway as the spunky, feisty, spirited, naughty Catwoman!!!
If the 2nd movie had been called ‘The Joker’ & the 3rd, ‘Cat woman rises’, justice would have prevailed!
They say it’s not all about the destination; the journey counts too! But where ‘Dark Knight Rises’, it is the dramatic, exciting & action packed ending that makes it pure ‘paisa vasool’, with a satisfying, romantic bollywood like climax!
But a happy ending doth not a movie make!

Review - 'Ek Tha Tiger'

“Ek tha mera brain” …. lost it completely, after watching “Ek Tha Tiger”!

,

Let’s take a moment, to applaud RAW & ISI – post ETT, having been entertained, by the unintentional comic capers of the celluloid agents of RAW & ISI, you come out of the theatre, grateful that what you had watched, was all fiction & that the asli agencies, actually do some decent work & keep the nation safe & secure!

So this is the story of Tiger (Salman Khan), a dal cooking, brash RAW agent, who wants never ending assignments & has been hoarding his untouched salary for countless years …. & all he has saved is a measly 23 lakhs! He falls in love with the enemy and they both, very easily, hoodwink their respective agencies & run away! The director has not heard of something called inflation, because with that before mentioned 23 lakhs, our hero gets fake passports made, buys business class tickets & happily globe trots with his mehbooba, Ms Kaif! Apart from the hero and heroine, the rest of the RAW & ISI agents are made to look like dumb, clumsy, ineffective buffoons!

For some reason, whenever Tiger hits the screen, music very similar to the theme of ‘Don’ plays – happy coincidence or some kind of a dig at SRK?

But every dark cloud has a silver lining:

Being a Yash Raj production & directed by Kabir Khan, Salman Khan is not allowed to be Salman Khan & that is a breath of fresh air, a welcome departure from “Bodyguard” kind of films. Sure he still cannot act, but is credible in the action sequences, which are plenty, exciting & James Bond like!

AND there’s Katrina Kaif – as the ISI agent, she is drop dead gorgeous, very likeable & kicks ass in the fight scenes! My besotted husband, totally smitten by Kat’s tough gal avatar, declares that the movie should have been called – ‘Ek Thi Kat!” Of course, if he continues to drool, I may have to write another piece titled, ‘Ek Tha Husband!’

Salman Khan fans will anyway watch ETT; for non SK fans, this is the best opportunity to see the actor in a fairly decent movie, where he is mellow & relatively sober! We watched it, because we had seen every other movie in town & simply needed our film fix! So whatever be your reason for watching ‘ETT’, go ahead, because while it may not be a great movie, it ‘aint bad either, has fabulous locales, set in the Middle East, which is the flavor of the season in Bollywood, has Kat looking sublime & shaking her belly like an India rubber man,in the ‘Mashallah’ number & because as Indians, we need to ‘save the Tiger!’
