uma calling uma

Buy one; get one free – for the price of a ticket, for 'Karthik calling Karthik', u get 2 movies:
Pehla ishtory, is the classic tale of the underdog – anonymous existence, a boss obviously inspired by the “Sadu” boss in the ‘naukri.com’ ad (quite a departure for Ram Kapoor, from ‘Mr Walia’ of that Balaji sic com!) & of course, the girl of his dreams, Deepika, who is oblivious of apna poor Farhan’s miserable presence!
A phone call to Karthik, from Karthik, is the unlikely fairy Godmother – phone waala Karthik waves his magic wand & eureka, dukhi Karthik, suddenly has reason to smile – he learns to say no, bully his boss, pataao the girl ... & they walk happily towards the sunset …
The end? Picture abhi baaki hai mere dost! Suddenly the mysterious Karthik turns from the good Dr Jekyll, to evil Mr Hyde!
Since there was no warning saying, ‘darna mana hai’ & without the strong shoulders of Ashok to cling to, Shik & I did jump out of our skins a couple of times, when KK (Kharaab Karthik!) called!
The Palghat Iyer in me thrilled at the surprise shift to Cochin! Yeh Mallu khush hui!
Farhan Akhtar is growing on me – I am yet to see a movie in which he has acted, which I haven’t found interesting.
Not sure whether this is everyone’s cuppa tea, but still, a departure from the run-of-the-mill stuff we jhelo regularly & certainly, as my dear friend Aruna put it, a breath of much needed, fresh air after the unbearable MNIK!
Confession: wouldn’t mind a call from Uma – as long as I don’t piss off phone waali Uma, life may get excting!

Slightly predictable, thoda cheesy, konjum unbelievable, but still ….
My Name Is Uma & I liked this movie!
