Side Effects of 'Side Effects!

What a mixed bag of goodies its been this season, in the magical world of the movies - history, comedy, book adaptations, real life drama .....

What was missing was an engrossing, brain tingling, psychological, supense thriller. Enter Steven Sodebergh, with his taut & twisted "Side Effects", not too complex, not too moronically simple, but served up just right, like Goldilocks's porridge, to keep you engaged and guessing!

A simple story, about a depressed wife (Rooney Mara, minus the dragon tattoo!), a husband just out of jail (Channing Tatum), a psychiatrist (the very handsome Jude Law) & Shrink 2 (Catherine Zeta Jones surprises in a brief, but interesting appearance). Under the influence of a new drug, recommended by her psychiatrist, the wife stabs her husband, but later has no recollection of her murderous act. Jude Law, as the pychiatrist, who prescribed the drug, comes under a cloud and faces the grim possibility of losing his credibility and his practice.

Straightforward and uncomplicated? But this is vintage Soderbergh - with some sharp & deft direction, the asli action starts now and catapults to a thrilling climax, which will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Rooney Mara proves that she is not a one film wonder - this is an actress to watch out for!

Jude Law matches up his devastating good looks, with a fine performance. He also has the ability to tug at the viewer's heartstings and you really feel sorry for the dude and hope that his story has a happy ending!

Catherine Zeta Jones sizzles and makes her presence felt, despite the brevity of her role!

Channing Tatum has stepped up his abilities as an actor and has come a long way since the teen dance flick,'Step Up'!

'Side Effects' of watching 'Side Effects' was that we the audience, left the cinema hall, happy that we had got our money's worth!
